Los forenses abren una nueva investigación a raíz del hallazgo del cadáver de una mujer junto a una farola de un parque. Los resultados de la autopsia revelan que la joven, identificada como Carla Peretti, murió asfixiada. Poco después, el C.S.I. tiene conocimiento de otra misteriosa muerte: la de un hombre que parecía estar llamando a un taxi. La extraña puesta en escena de ambos cuerpos lleva a pensar a los forenses que los crímenes son obra de un psicópata, investigación a la que se suma Riley Adams, la nueva forense del equipo.
